I am a self-taught artist and mostly work in oils, sometimes in acrylics. I paint
surreal landscapes, abstracts, and copies of famous works.
My surreal works are painted entirely from imagination. They're visualisations
of a place or world that I'd like to visit if it was physically real. The abstracts follow
a similar strand: I'm fascinated by what can be seen through a microscope - it's as if
there's a whole new world to be discovered in things that are very small, and I seek to
bring them into this world by making them very large.
Most of my copies are of works by Van Gogh in his later period. I make copies for the
simple reason that I think they're great images, and because I want to have them as
real paintings rather than prints.
Amongst the many painters that I admire are Dali, Van Gogh, Picasso, and the Pre-Raphaelites.
I love the 'otherness' of Dali, the sheer power and emotion of Van Gogh, the freedom of Picasso,
and the Pre-Raphaelites for their romanticism and amazing skill.
